Quickie

This has to be a quick post, since I have a very exciting day. Even though I'm a fourth-year associate, I'm still the most junior person in my office...which starts to suck after a while, because there's no one for me to pass off work to. Until now. One of our nearby offices has a first-year associate who (miraculously) wants to do bankruptcy work, and BOY do I have plenty of it. So, he's coming into the city today to hang out, meet Bosslady and I, and -- most importantly -- grab some assignments from me.

I feel like dancing! But instead I need to pull stuff together to give to him. So that means a very quick weekend recap.

I started Saturday with a great nine-miler with Claudia from Sunrise & Cherries. I love meeting new running buddies, and it's a big bonus when we're running the same pace. We hit up the Schuylhill trail and knocked out nine miles on the Art Museum loop in about 1:32, chatting the entire time.

And good thing, too, because I proceeded to spend the next several hours doing this:

And preparing all kinds of appetizers. Here's the initial spread:

Please see cameos by what I've dubbed "OhSheGlows Canadian Hockey Nuts," and pumpkin pie dip inspired by Caitlin. Everyone raved - there was a lot of "Wait, did you actually MAKE this?" which I'm going to go ahead and take as a compliment.

(Please also see cameos by my husband's harmonica, which he uses to entertain the dogs, and my nacho hat, which was a wedding gift from my stepmother. My sister and I each got one. They are heirlooms.)

No pictures of the rest of the eats, though, since I was too busy, you know, eating and setting up and hosting and generally hanging out. I refilled all of the dips several times, and eventually let everyone loose on the chili and meatball sandwiches. Despite my certainty that I'd made an embarassing quantity of food, there were barely any leftovers. I made FOUR PACKAGES of Trader Joe's meatless meatballs, and threw almost four pounds of ground turkey in the chili...and somehow, almost all of it went. My excessiveness has been reinforced.

It should come as no surprise that I spent most of Sunday decked out in my finest:

It was a tossup between my Phillies sweats and my Eagles sweats. Eagles won out only because they're new, and there is NOTHING in the world quite like brand-new super-soft fleece. Apparently, I made the right choice, since the Phils swept even WITHOUT my pants' support.

How was your weekend?

Quick Blogging Break

GAH.

Last night, I had a swanky wine pairing event to attend for the firm. Sometimes, being in this business ain't so bad, right?

Six glasses of wine (a rose, a white, three reds and a sparkling dessert wine) plus six courses (THREE of them were red meat -- lamb chop, veal, and strip steak...be still my beating heart) plus a drive home starting at 11pm -- all of that equals one sleepy PhillyGirl today.

I figured I'd have a better chance of actually being bright and cheery if I dressed the part, so I threw on a new skirt I picked up at the J.Crew outlet over my stay-cation.

Problem: in my closet, I saw the print as black and navy. Once I got to work under the super-flattering flourescent office lights? Clearly two shades of navy. So my black handback and black sunglasses just make it look like I got dressed in the dark. Which I apparently sort of did.

My first cup of iced coffee was completely unhelpful, so by 9:15 I found myself in line at Starbucks waiting to re-up.

That isn't what woke me up, though. What really snapped me into reality was getting a couple of totally frivolous "emergency" motions tossed into my lap. That I now need to spend my weekend responding to. (I just typed out a long rant about what I think constitutes an "emergency" (hint: this isn't it), but thought better and deleted it. I don't know why, but this particular case really gets under my skin. It's definitely up there with the top three contributing factors to the ulcer I'm sure I have. Costco on a weekend, produce section at Wegman's on a weekend, and this case.)

It's Friday! And PhillyGuy and I are going to grill pork chops for dinner...preferably eat them outside on our balcony. I didn't mention it on here (um, okay, I actually didn't mention much of ANYTHING on here since I haven't posted all week), but he was away for the week. My bookend pups kept me company, but it's nice to have him back.

My plans for the weekend (besides responding to these stupid motions) involve a pedicure, plenty of weights and hopefully a long run -- assuming my hip cooperates. How about you?

Not so Hot

blech. Not feeling so hot today, blogworld.

I think it's a combination of things.

My poor Sophie is a little injured. Until today, we thought it was one of her legs. All I know is that for the past two nights, she's been VERY snappy and growl-y when you touch her or bump her, even in the slightest. What that translates to, since she sleeps on the bed with us, is her barking sharply if I, say, move around in my sleep. Or, you know, if she settles in on the pillows next to my head while I sleep, and PhillyGuy lovingly reaches over to give her a little pet, she flips out and bites my head.

(I want you to be clear on that. PhillyGuy pets puppy, puppy doesn't like it, puppy snaps and bites PhillyGIRL's head. When I'm just minding my own business, passed the F out like a normal person.)

I'm a pretty light sleeper. So, for the past two nights, Sophie has been waking me up every hour or so.

On top of that, I have two enormous, enormous deals closing this week. That means I have to draft roughly seventy bajillion documents...by tomorrow. Since they both need to close by Thursday.

I'm yawning. I'm sleep-deprived. I'm slightly overwhelmed. And I am NOT feeling good. I ate a Clif Builder's Bar a little while ago, since I'm basically chained to my desk until I get a few more things drafted...and who knows how long that will take. Something about the bar must not have agreed with me, because I'm suddenly feeling nauseated and uncomfortable.

Can I please just go home and go to bed?

(PS: PhillyGuy took our girl to the vet this morning, where she was diagnosed with a back injury -- most likely from the wrestling and general puppy-hurricane-ing that she and Cosmo do regularly. She got a freaking CORTISONE SHOT and some anti-inflammatories. Yes, that's right -- my 15-lb dog got a cortisone shot.)

She looks thrilled about it, right?
